Planet of the Incredible Menace

Bounty Hunter Luzi, pixel'd in the AGI style, walking

Planet of the Incredible Menace is an incredibly short demo. A promise of a game that never was.

It is included for a few reasons.

Firstly: It's made by my buddy peat (sometimes called Awesomonster, previously called Pesty. They're a good person).

Secondly: It's a Space Quest fan game (or the beginnings of one) that doesn't use Roger Wilco as the protagonist. He's not even in this.

The conceit, for the 99% of you that are unfamiliar, is "You're a bounty hunter named Luzi. Some stupid janitor just caused your Genetix stock to plummet and you're strapped for cash. It's time to go and find yourself a bounty to catch!"

So you have the established Space Quest setting (for what it is), you have a timeline (right after Space Quest V), and you have events set into motion by Roger Wilco, but you have a story that is separate and self-contained.

More fan games should explore these kind of ideas. I know there are the many sides of OCs and Self-Inserts and perceived baggage and traps that comes along with that, but locking yourself and the players into a single character is super constrictive.

The game isn't long, and it's available over on the internet archive if you want to check it out.
