Official Games

The official Space Quest games hold a special place in my brain, and it's honestly quite difficult to provide an overall summary of them.

I began playing them back on the Amiga in the 1980s, and since then I have grown as an individual, developing different tastes, gaining insight into design philosophies, game creation, and the history of the series development.

The creation of these games span over a decade, primarily under the stewardship of The Two Guys from Andromeda, Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy.

Others have covered the history of the games themselves better than I could, so I will instead only offer my personal thoughts on each title.

Fan Remakes

Not an isolated occurence within the adventure game community, but somewhat of a curiosity to me at least, is the amount of effort some will go to to recreate entire narrative games that they enjoyed, often expanding upon the existing content, correcting historical drift, and updating the audio and visual fidelity of the titles (and usually changing the interface/mechanics to be inline with later entries or newer methodologies).

Precedent was set for this by Sierra themselves (to mixed results, reception, and profits) when they attempted a catalog refresh, recreating the firsts of several of their series (King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry).

Fan Games

While not to the extent of some other adventure game series, Space Quest has had a surprising number of full sequels, prequels, and interquels created by it's fans.

Here is a selection of the titles that I have found and played thus far.

Incomplete Fan Games

Not every game under development comes to fruition.

I'd like to talk about some of them regardless.

Related Games

The legacy of Space Quest has certainly expanded beyond the games labeled as such. Here are a few titles that I would like to discuss that I would consider to be part of that legacy.
